A famous summer and winter tourist resort, Schilpario is locatedin the middle section of val di Scalve, for which it is the main centre. Well known as far back as Roman times, for the rich iron mines located in the surrounding areas, Schilpario is today a very popular and excellently equippedskiing resort.
The centre of the village still conservessome aristocratic buildings(casa Mai and casa Moro, from the XVIII century), in addition to the seventeenth century Parish Church of S. Antonio (interesting paintings). The Ethnographic Museum hosts numerous testimonies to life in val di Scalve over the centuries. In Fondi it is possible to see a characteristic mining village dating from the nineteenth century,now abandoned - an interesting example of industrial archaeology.
Sports activities comprise cross-country skiing rings of 3, 5, 8 and 10 km with artificial snow, a skating rink on an unroofed field, hang-gliding andfishing in the Valbrona and Vo' torrents, on the river Dezzo and alpine lakes(lake Venerocolo, Valle Asinina, Valbona and smaller lakes in the valleys).
